Temporary closure of the visa section

During the state of emergency the Embassy will remain closed to the regular traffic of visitors and also the issuance of visas is suspended. Exemptions may only be made for spouses of German citizens and travellers with an essential function as healthcare professionals, health researchers and elderly care professionals. Already filed applications will be processed. Applicants, whose visas are ready for issuance, will be informed. Therefore, please refrain from inquiries concerning the state of visa applications.

The entry restrictions on all non-essential travel from third countries to the Federal Republic of Germany to contain COVID-19 may mean that you are not able to use a national visa issued by the Embassy during its period of validity. As soon as entry is permitted again, we intend to renew the visas of all those affected as quickly and simply as possible. This fast-track procedure will be available if your date of travel has changed, but the purpose of your visit and destination remain unaltered. The Embassy will inform you without delay of any steps to be taken once travel is permitted again.

Visa and entry

As of 16 June 2020, no specific reason will be required for travel from Romania to Germany. Visas for entry to Germany can therefore again be applied for and issued in accordance with the regular legal regulations. The booking of appointments for visa applications  is possible again.

A 14-day quarantine applies to travellers from the European Union, Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland or the United Kingdom if the number of new infections in the last seven days exceeds 50 per 100,000 inhabitants in the country concerned. On the website of the Robert Koch Institute you can check for which European countries this applies.
